Elisabeth - Principal, Vienna

I started as a consultant at 4flow 11 years ago and since then, my career developed significantly. Back then, I wanted to combine my major field of study and my passion for supply chain management with consulting—and I found the perfect environment for that at 4flow.

The respectful corporate culture, the prospect of exciting challenges, a dynamic work environment and a steep learning curve were convincing factors during the application process – and all of this has held be true. Since starting as a consultant, I have been supported by dedicated mentors who have continuously encouraged my personal and professional growth.

Over time, I progressed from consultant to project manager and took on leadership roles. I also developed a specialization in supply chain planning for which I became a recognized expert both within 4flow and for our customers. My personal life also evolved during this time—I became a mother. Thanks to 4flow’s flexible work models, remote work options and a supportive transition after parental leave, I was able to continue growing professionally while balancing family life. I even had the opportunity to shift focus temporarily to sales and product development during this phase.

Jonathan - Manager, Berlin

My journey at 4flow consulting began in 2019, when I joined as a working student while still at university. From day one, I had the opportunity to connect with team members, expand my network and gain hands-on project experience. Starting early allowed me to explore different areas of consulting and, over time, develop both a clear professional focus and a strong specialization in a specific customer industry. To date, I've worked with around 20 different customers.

As my experience grew, so did my responsibilities – I began leading sub-projects and supporting team members in their work. Along the way, I came to realize how much I enjoy the combination of analytical thinking, structured problem‑solving and teamwork.

My growth at 4flow has been a natural progression. Step by step, I’ve taken on new responsibilities and continued to expand my skills. Today, as a manager, my focus is on steering projects toward successful outcomes and bringing together diverse perspectives – from customers and project teams to internal stakeholders. The Elevate leadership program has also been a key part of my growth, giving me the tools to reflect on and refine my leadership style.

What excites me most about my role is the blend of professional excellence and team leadership. I believe in giving people clear direction while also creating space for them to grow. To me, strong leadership means being transparent about expectations, maintaining open and regular dialogue and fostering a culture of mutual respect. 4flow’s culture is a key enabler of this – reliability, trust and honest, collegial collaboration form the foundation of how we work together and how we partner with our customers.

Henrike – Senior Consultant, München

The world of logistics and supply chain is becoming increasingly complex and harder to predict by the minute: When will items arrive? Where should they be kept or warehoused? These are the questions being asked time and time again by our customers. My job as a consultant is to meet these challenges by working together with customers to optimize their supply chain processes. I like to work analytically, which enables me to approach tasks in a structured way. For example, I first determine our customers’ current situation and then go about determining further possibilities. And of course, I work with them to implement the possibilities we identified.

Team members at 4flow are very hard working, but open at the same time. Everyone takes time for each other, and the team really works together. Individuals are very approachable across the hierarchy and this unique team spirit sets us apart. Women often decide against starting a career in consulting because they don't think they’re suited to the tasks or daily work life associated with it. I can only encourage women that with the right team, like the one you find at 4flow, these assumptions can be proven wrong. Diversity is very important at 4flow and I’m excited to encourage it within the organization.

Konrad - Vice President, Berlin

As vice president at 4flow consulting, one of my responsibilities is overseeing our key accounts in the high-tech sector. My role is multifaceted – combining project management, management of key accounts and technical leadership in projects within my areas of expertise. A key part of my work is active collaboration with our customers, from developing supply chain strategies to implementing specific work packages. The goal is to jointly develop actionable solutions, contribute new ideas and initiate potential follow-up projects.

My days generally include coordinating projects and project tasks, managing progress and ensuring that everything runs smoothly. It’s essential to consider our customers’ needs to ensure high quality – both in implementation and in the results. No two days are the same, and that's what makes my work so exciting.

What else makes 4flow a great place to work? It’s the unique combination of entrepreneurial freedom, strong team spirit, and a genuine work-life balance. As a parent of two, I was able to take extended parental leave after each of my kids was born and work flexibly – between 40% and 80% – until they got spots at daycare. I am now back to traveling regularly for work, but thanks to 4flow’s flexible work model, I can still adapt my schedule to my family's needs – something that’s far from standard in consulting. 4flow fosters trust and personal responsibility, supporting different lifestyles through flexible working models, parental leave and sabbaticals. If you are looking for growth, responsibility, and a strong sense of community, this is the place for you.

FAQ

Is it possible to specialize in a specific area?

The world of supply chain is diverse. If you want to start in logistics engineering or data science, you’ll specialize in your area from the beginning. If you choose to start in management consulting, you’ll grow familiar with all kinds of industries, topics and projects from day one. That way, you’ll gain diverse experience to prepare for all kinds of challenges that might come your way in your career. When you reach the level of project lead, you can choose which area you want to specialize in.

What does a typical workday look like in business consulting?

We’ve got good news: the typical consultant week, where you spend Monday through Thursday at the customer and come to the office on Friday, isn’t how we work. We have a nice mix of virtual and on-site projects at our customers. On the whole, we don’t travel as much as we did a few years ago. When you aren’t traveling, you can choose if you want to come into one of our modern offices or if you’d rather work from home.

What does a typical workday look like in data science or logistics engineering?

The biggest difference from management consulting is the kind of tasks – even if they’re just as varied. In the data science team, you’ll mostly handle data analysis and modeling, so your work is more behind the scenes. But you’ll also have projects where you work directly with customers. In logistics engineering, you’ll take on long-term projects to plan and implement intralogistics concepts. Depending on the project phase, you’ll be either on-site at the customer or you can choose to work from a 4flow office or remotely from home.

How big are the project teams?

Project teams are usually made of 3 to 5 people. We build these teams new for every project, so together you’ll have the competencies you need to tackle your tasks.

Can I choose the projects I work on?

Your manager will give you an overview of all upcoming projects so you can list your preferences. Unfortunately, we can’t make any guarantees, but we try to consider your priorities when building project teams.

How long are projects in business consulting on average?

Generally, you’ll spend about 4-5 months on a project. Of course, there are some exceptions – some projects might last only 3 weeks or even a whole year. For these especially long projects, different teams are usually involved, so you can still expect some variety.

How many projects are international?

Looking forward to gaining international experience? Perfect! You can expect about 25-50% of your projects to be international.
